17th August 2010: We're very pleased to announce that after a break of several months, you can now obtain delicious all-Australian macadamias from us again.
We've been out of macadamias since about
March this year. This is probably the longest time we've ever had any of our regular lines out of stock since The Peanut Van started 1969. And you're probably asking:
Huh? Why so? The reason is that in late summer this year the major macadamia farming areas in northern NSW were hit by a
big flood. This not only wiped out most of their crop, but it took out quite a lot of their storage stock as well.
Naturally, the macadamia farmers had
pre-existing commitments with all the big food manufacturers. And when the flood waters went down and they'd had time to work out their losses, it turned out that they had enough -
barely enough! - to meet their supply contracts. So all the rest of us have just had to wait until things normalised a bit again.
We're farmers ourselves so we certainly understand the pickle that the macadamia farmers found themselves in! And because The Peanut Van has
always supported
all-Australian foodstuffs, we
refused on principle to import macadamias to fill the gap.
Instead - just like you - we've been waiting patiently for things to get back to normal so we could continue our long-standing support for these
great Aussie farmers. And that's why we're so pleased to report that things seem to have finally turned the corner for them.
And this means that if you want to add macadmias to your nut supply again, you can now pick up
375gm or
1kg packs from any of our retail outlets or
order them online through our website. Our macadamias are as
delicious as they ever were and they're guaranteed (as always!)
100% Australian. And
thankyou for waiting so patiently with us while we looked for everything to come right again.
